Your primer on the fantasy impact of the latest NFL news
By Jeff Ecker
Scoring Alert! Scoring Alert! If last week you played anyone stupid enough to start the Browns defense and it was a close game you might want to recheck the scores. The official ruling on one of the sacks Ben Roethlisberger took has been changed to a completed pass. Operate accordingly.
Adrian Peterson owners may now exhale. He practiced. Start him unless Minneapolis is swallowed by an earthquake tomorrow.
While we're on the subject of the Vikings, for reasons that mystify me I have been spending time talking myself into Frerotte as a viable fantasy sleeper. I was quick to dismiss him earlier in the week, but then I started thinking about the situation he's inheriting. Then the Vikings admitted the Berrian injury could last all season and I came to my senses. Even if the team does well, I can't see Frerotte putting up start-worthy fantasy numbers.
If you picked up Keary Colbert this week you may need to drop him next week. Reports out of Seattle indicate he might be cut when Bobby Engram and Deion Branch return. How much does that suck for Colbert? He gets traded and then hears he might not have a job soon. That's harsh.
Koren Robinson is on the injury report already. That didn't take long.
Dallas Clark is expected to play Sunday. This news should be just as big to Anthony Gonzalez owners as it is Clark owners.
Joey Harrington was signed by the Saints. If you are in a 32-team league with 25-man rosters this guy should be on your radar. Otherwise this has about as much fantasy impact as the NL East Pennant race (Go Phillies!).
Overtime: Just a few notes about the West Virginia/Colorado game last night:
Noel Devine is good. He does it all, including letting loose a great block on a screen pass. He did get lucky on fumble because of facemask call, but it was still an overall solid performance.
We would like to welcome Colorado running back Rodney Stewart to the national stage. Rod Stewart…awesome.
The field was in disarray because of a volleyball tournament held there earlier in the week. Someone in the Colorado athletic department needs to be fired.
What in the hell was going on with West Virginia coach Bill Stewart? He's calling double-fakes in his own end zone and mismanaging (it seemed) the clock at the end of the game. Maybe that contract extension was a bit premature?
